Bobotie with rice, chutney and vegetables

Bobotie is a meatloaf from South Africa , which goes back to immigrants from Indonesia .

It consists of spicy minced meat from mutton , beef or game , which is sometimes mixed with chopped and steamed vegetables and / or fruits. The minced meat is then covered with egg milk in a baking dish and baked in the oven. It gets a crispy crust. Bobotie is usually served in portions on saffron rice . As with a curry , you usually eat a chutney with it . The dish has been known in the area around the Cape of Good Hope since the 17th century and originally comes from Java or the Dutch East Indies , whereby the name can also be derived from the Indonesian bobotok .
