Bocchus I.

Bocchus I was king of Mauritania around 110 to 80 BC. Chr.

In the Jugurthin War (111-105 BC) between the Numidian king Jugurtha and the Roman Empire , he stayed until 108 BC. Neutral, but then sided with his son-in-law Jugurtha. Later he betrayed Jugurtha and delivered him in 105 BC. At Sulla . He then entered into an amicitia relationship ("friendship") with Rome. Part of Numidia was added to his empire, and Gauda ruled the rest of Numidia .

Bocchus left two sons who ruled over the divided Mauritania after his death: Bocchus and Bogudes .
