Ground freight

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cargo floor (engl. Bed load ) referred to in the geomorphology of the transport of sand - to gravel large grains on the bottom , within a medium , such. B. air or water . The grains can be moved by three different types of motion: rolling, sliding or saltation (jumping).

Modes of transport

In the event of a saltation, the re-hitting grain can again stimulate other grains to saltation. These grains can be six times larger than the excitation grain. The process can continue as a chain reaction , even if the transport energy drops. At the same time, the grain that hits it releases the finest particles ( clay , silt ) from the soil, which then go into suspension .

The type of movement for each individual grain is determined by the grain shape, the grain size and the energy available (the larger the grains, the more energy the medium needs to set them in motion).
