Bodo Baschek

Bodo Baschek (* 1935 in Berlin ) is a German astronomer and one of the leading experts in the analysis of stellar atmospheres .

Life

Bodo Baschek studied physics, mathematics and astronomy at the University of Kiel from 1954 , where he received his doctorate in 1959 under Albrecht Unsöld with a thesis on star physics . In the next few years he stayed in Kiel, where he was given leave of absence for two postdoc stays in Pasadena at Caltech (1962–1963) and in Canberra at the Mount Stromlo Observatory (1967–1968). From 1969 until his retirement in 2001, Baschek was professor at the Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics at Heidelberg University .

He is particularly known for being the editor of the textbook "The New Cosmos: Introduction to Astronomy and Astrophysics", which Albrecht Unsöld took over.
