Bogward Dovecot

Bogward Dovecot is a pigeon tower in the Scottish town of St Andrews in the Fife Council Area . In 1971, the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish list of monuments in the highest monument category A.

history

The pigeon tower was probably built in the early to mid-16th century. In 1956 its overall condition was described as good, but its roof had collapsed. After being transferred to the St Andrews Preservation Trust around 1960, the Bogward Dovecot was restored. Among other things, the roof was repaired and the door replaced.

description

The Bogward Dovecot stands to the west of St Andrews on the Doocot Road named after him . The blunt tower, designed in the style of a beehive hut , tapers towards the top. Its masonry consists of rubble from sandstone . Three simple cornices divide the tower horizontally. There are entry openings for the birds between the two upper cornices. At the foot a wooden door leads into the inside of the tower.
