Beanless

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The bean lot was a method of awarding public office in ancient Greece by lot . For each candidate for the office to be filled, there was a bean in a vessel. Of these beans, only so many were white as offices were to be given. If the candidate pulled a black bean, he was eliminated; if he pulled a white one, he got the office.

When the number of candidates became too large, the relatively lengthy and relatively easy to manipulate procedure was replaced from the middle of the 5th century BC. Chr. By the use of a Losmaschine, the Kleroterions .
