Bokerley Dyke is a Roman-British militia in northeast Dorset , near the village of Pentridge . It cuts the Roman Road in the section between Old Sarum and Badbury Rings .

It is dated to the year 367 and was used to repel Saxon conquerors in Dorset. It is believed that the defense was successful because the Roman-British culture continued to exist in Dorset about 200 years after the fall of the Roman Empire .

The wall fell in the second half of the sixth century. Another line of defense, called Combs Ditch , was 30 miles to the southwest, and fell a short time later, so that the Saxons invaded Dorchester .

The Bokerley Dyke merges into the Grim's Ditch , which runs through Hampshire .
