Bolívar (Montevideo)

Bolívar is a barrio of Montevideo .

The Montevidean district of Bolívar was founded in 1889 by Francisco Piria in the area between the streets near Avenida General Flores , known at the turn of the century as Camino Larrañaga and Camino Propios (today Bulevar José Batlle y Ordóñez ) . The streets crossing the quarter were called Venezuela , Bolivia , Perú , Nueva Granada and Ecuador at the time. It covers an area of ​​around ten to twelve hectares. The barrio was described as cosmopolitan and of modest architecture in the early 20th century. In the structure of the population of around 400 people at that time, it was predominantly made up of workers known as day laborers. It is now part of the Barrios Mercado Modelo y Bolívar .
