Boland Amendment

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Boland Amendment was a law passed by the United States Congress in 1982 . It banned any further US financial and military aid to the Nicaraguan Contra rebels supported by the CIA . The US government under Ronald Reagan continued the aid anyway, and the CIA switched to illegal means of funding from then on. In 1986, the exposure of these events led to a scandal known as the Iran-Contra Affair .

It was named after the democratic politician Edward Boland (1911–2001).
