Bolos from Mendes
Bolos de Mendes was an ancient Greek writer. He came from Mendes in Egypt and lived in the 3rd century BC. Chr.
Bolos wrote writings on occult subjects. Magical ideas of the Orient mixed with Greek philosophy in his works. They belonged to the paradoxography , which dealt with abnormal phenomena. He wrote on astrology, alchemy , medicines, sympathy and antipathy, and agriculture. One of his works was a forgery under the name of Democritus and was later believed to be a real work of Democritus. He is also considered a pioneer of alchemy.
