history

Following the liberal measures of the then President of Peru, Field Marshal Ramón Castilla , three implementing orders were issued in 1857 (1840, 1846 and 1857), which enabled the establishment of the Lima Stock Exchange on December 31, 1860. The stock exchange was finally opened on January 7, 1861. However, no stocks were traded for the first three decades. In 1898 the stock exchange was reorganized under the name Bolsa Comercial de Lima as a result of the impulse of the former president Nicolás de Piérola . Stocks, bonds and notes were traded on the reorganized Bolsa Comercial de Lima; particularly from banks, insurance companies and the Peruvian government.

The Bolsa de Valores de Lima (BVL) was founded in 1970 as a non-profit private association. BVL has been trading electronically since 1995 using the so-called ELEX system. The following year, BVL merged with Bolsa de Valores de Arequipa. In 2003, the Bolsa de Valores de Lima was converted into a company. In 2010, this merged with the stock exchanges of Mexico , Colombia and Chile to form the Mercado Integrado Latinoamericano .
