The Vantaa bombing on October 11, 2002 was a bomb attack on the Myyrmanni shopping center in the west of the Finnish city of Vantaa . Six people and the perpetrator himself died, and another 166 people were injured. The perpetrator was 19-year-old Petri Erkki Tapio Gerdt, who was born on April 17, 1983 and who studied chemistry at Espoo-Vantaa University.

In his free time he built smaller bombs as a hobby and detonated them in the nearby forest. The bomb consisted of a 2-3 pound ANNM explosive and shotgun cases, which were believed to be fragmented.
