The Bombergbahn was a funicular in Bad Pyrmont that operated from 1895 to 1923. It was also known as the Pyrmonter Bergbahn .

history

The Bombergbahn was built in 1895 by Pyrmonter Bergbahn GmbH , it ran along Bombergallee to the forest recreation area. The distance between the valley station at the Hercules statue and the mountain station at the mountain railway restaurant, which was also built in 1895/96, was around one kilometer. Although the railway was initially very popular, the operating company soon fell into the red. In 1919 the train was sold for 18,000 Reichsmarks to the city of Bad Pyrmont, which wanted to keep the tourist attraction. However, under the pressure of inflation and the need for repairs too high, the railway was finally abandoned. In 1925 the facilities were dismantled.

The history of the railway is documented in the museum in Pyrmont Castle .

Technical

The Bombergbahn had an extraordinary gauge of 77.5 cm (775 mm) and was initially powered by a gasoline engine , later by a gas engine. The two open passenger cars offered seats for 18 passengers each.
