Bompard (Marseille)

Bompard is a district ( French : Quartier ) of the southern French city ​​of Marseille in the Bouches-du-Rhône department . Bompard belongs to the 7th arrondissement (city district). In 2006 the quarter had 4,153 inhabitants.

The district is in close proximity to the Mediterranean Sea . Part of the Massif de la Garde belongs to Bompard , which are limestone hills with the Notre-Dame de la Garde church on the top , which, however, does not belong to Bompard. There are numerous caves in the hills. The local economy and culture are strongly influenced by the location by the sea. Fishing has always played an important role; it is operated from the fishing port of Le Prophète . There is also a yacht club in Bompard. The quarter is also characterized by a particularly high number of cafés and restaurants. Important cultural institutions include a cinema opened in 1912 and the Théâtre Silvain, inaugurated in 1923 .
