It is based in Cyprus and is one of the largest erotic cam sites in Europe in competition with US Chaturbate . The site is currently the 72nd most visited website based on Alexa Internet rank. In 2015, BongaCams was one of the 100 most visited websites (measured by Alexa Internet Rank) and one of the most visited websites for erotic webcam shows. The website received its first award in 2016 at the Live Cam Awards 2016 in the category "Best Emerging Live Cam Site". In December 2016, BongaCams acquired RusCams.com. The camming site CamFuze.com was also acquired in March 2017.
In January 2017, the Maltese newspaper The Malta Independent reported that BongaCams were more popular with the Maltese than the free online encyclopedia Wikipedia .
