Bongard (Düren)
The Bongard in the district town of Düren ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) is an old city street .
location
The Bongard was first documented in 1467 and considered the tree garden of the Carolingian Palatinate. From the Middle Ages to the end of the 17th century, the Bongard was located between Kämergasse and Steinweg on a street that was then called "An der Kalle". At the beginning of the 18th century, the street name "An der Kalle" was replaced and renamed Altenteich. At that time, the Bongard went into town to the confluence area Steinweg, Lutherische-Gasse and Nagelschmiedsgasse. On the northern side of the Bongard, at the corner of “An der Kalle”, there was a bay house from the late Gothic period. This house was built at the end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th century and is often incorrectly referred to in many sources as the Gewandhaus or meeting house of the cloth makers' guild. The actual and proper Gewandhaus stood at Altenteich ("up dem alden dyche") in today's Weierstrasse No. 44
At today's house Bongard No. 15 there is a plaque reminiscent of the Gewandhaus. However, it is not the actual location.
