Bonnington was a whiskey distillery in Leith , City of Edinburgh , Scotland . Sometimes it is also referred to as the Leith Distillery and must not be confused with the Lochend distillery , which was founded in 1825 and was also known as Leith .

history

The distillery was founded in 1798 by Balenie & Kemp in the city of Leith. It is one of the oldest commercial distilleries in Scotland and was the first distillery in the city of Leith. She first made malt whiskey . In 1805 the company was taken over by John Haig. The distillery became famous when in 1835 it was the first distillery in the world to use a coffey still and from then on it produced grain whiskey . Operations ceased in 1853.
