Bor- is a word component in Slavic person and place names .

It can also be in connection with the chemical element boron ( borates , borax ).

Origin and meaning

Boron was derived probably from the Persian Burah ( بوره ab). In the 4th century the Iranian tribe of the Borans north of the Black Sea was mentioned, in the 7th century the Persian ruler Boran .

In the 9th century the name was first Booris ( Βόωρίς ) or Bogoris ( Βόγορίς ) for the Bulgarian tsar I. Boris called. A derivation from a Turkic language (meaning (little) wolf ) is also possible.

In the Slavic languages it is usually from Borit fighting interpreted.
