Borbee's Jass Orchestra
Borbee's Jass Orchestra was a musical group that reportedly played jazz in 1917 .
The ensemble, led by Ernest Borbee, was invited to the studio on February 14, 1917 by Columbia Records . As Borbee's Tango Orchestra it recorded two tracks, "It's a Long, Long Time" and "Just the Kind of Girl You'd Love to Make Your Wife". In July 1917 these were published, but the band was named as the Jass Orchestra to share in the success of the original Dixieland Jass Band . On August 17, 1917, Borbee and his Jass Orchestra recorded two more titles for Columbia, the Foxtrot "Paddle-Addle" and the one-step "The Ragtime Volunteers Are Off to War," which were released in November 1917.
