Borgarberget is a Wallenburg ( Swedish Fornborg ) near the lake Halsjön north of Levalunda in Ronneby in Blekinge in Sweden . The castle is a presumably Iron Age complex on a high rock.

The Fornborg measures about 100 × 50 meters in north-south direction. It consists of steep cliffs in the south, east, west and north-west. In the north and northeast, the area is protected by slopes. Above these are angled walls. There is rubble at the entrance. Halsjön, to the west, reached the cliff before it was lowered.

There are several theories about the function of such systems. Although the forms suggest defensive structures, the Fornborgar are compared with the Slavic castles , which, like the later medieval cities, were protected dwellings and religious centers. The function as a refuge comes into consideration for some, but it should be a uniform reason for use.

In the north-west of Finland there are similar castles, which are called Jätinkirkko ( German  " giant churches " ) and also come from the Iron Age . The Wallburg Hästhagen is about 1.0 km south .
