Boris S. Mordukhovich ( Russian Борис Шолимович Мордухович , transcription Boris Scholimowitsch Mordukhovich ; * 1948 in Moscow ) is a Russian-American mathematician.

Boris Mordukhovich received his PhD in 1973 from the Belarusian State University under Rafail Gabasov (Existence of Optimal Controls and Necessary Optimality Conditions in Dynamical Systems). He completed his habilitation at the Institute of Cybernetics of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in Kiev , was at the Research Institute for Water Resources in Minsk from 1973 to 1988 and taught at the State University of Belarus in Minsk. Mordukhovich emigrated to the USA in late 1988, where he has been a professor at Wayne State University since 1989, where he became a Distinguished University Professor.

He also taught and researched in Vietnam, at the University of Messina, Alicante, Beijing, Harbin, Saudi Arabia (King Fahd University in Dhahran), in Taiwan, at the Weierstrass Institute in Berlin, in Chile, Vienna, Toulouse, Kyoto, Sydney and at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Laxenburg.

He deals with nonlinear and convex optimization and control theory and is one of the founders of variational analysis with generalized derivatives and set-valued functions.

He is a SIAM Fellow, Fellow of the American Mathematical Society and multiple honorary doctorates (National Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan, University of Messina, University of Alicante). Mordukhovich was the founding editor of Set-valued and variational analysis .

Mordukhovich is a US citizen.
