The Borneo Bulletin is the source of information for local, regional and foreign news and business information in Brunei. history

The newspaper was first published in 1953 as a weekly news source for expatriates in Brunei. Its founders were the Englishmen William Frederick Runagall and Geoffrey Weir Kerr. Runagall gave up his publishing house in Singapore ( The Craftsman Press ) to found the Brunei Press in Kuala Belait, Brunei. Kerr was then the information director for Shell Oil Company in Seria, Brunei. The Borneo Bulletin consisted of 12 pages and had a circulation of 3500 copies. In 1959, the newspaper was sold to Singapore's Straits Times . The newspaper grew over the years and had 40 pages of news and advertisements. It appeared on Friday.

1985 Bruneis first public company QAF took over parts of the shares of Brunei Press from the Straits Times. In September 1990, QAF acquired all of the shares and the Borneo Bulletin became a daily newspaper (Monday through Saturday). In 1991 a Sunday edition was introduced.

An online edition of the newspaper was launched in the mid-1990s.

content

There are seven thematic sections in the newspaper: local news, Borneo news, regional news, world news, business news, advertisements, and sports. With the exception of the local news and some news from Borneo, most of the other news is handled by international news agencies . There are occasional analyzes and special reports on a wide variety of subjects that are adopted by foreign news agencies. The newspaper is self- censoring to avoid conflict with the Brunei government.

However, the letters to the editor contain critical comments on government policy on certain social, economic or environmental issues. Occasionally the government will comment on issues related to social or environmental issues.

Borneo Bulletin Online

The Borneo Bulletin Online, launched in 1995, is free of charge and gives access to all subject areas and articles in the print edition.
