Bosnian-Hercegovinian commemorative medal, obverse / reverse (from above to below)

The Bosnian-Hercegovinian Memorial Medal was donated on August 30, 1909 by Emperor Franz Joseph I on the occasion of the incorporation of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the union of Austria-Hungary .

In addition to all on October 5, 1908 the XV. Corps officers and military officials , the award could also be given to all persons in the Bosnian-Hercegovin public service as well as officials of the Austro-Hungarian Ministry of Finance .

The obverse of the round medal made of bronze shows the bust of Franz Joseph I with the inscription FRANC · IOS · I · D · G · IMP · AVSTR · REX BOH · ETC · ET AP · REX HVNG · . In the lapel , on a stylized laurel tree, the coat of arms of Bosnia and Hercegovia can be seen, surmounted by a lily crown . On the tree a narrow band with the inscription DIE V · OCT · MCMVIII and on the trunk an arched band with the inscription IN · MEMORIAM .

The award was worn on a red and yellow split ribbon on the left side of the chest.

A total of around 2800 medals were awarded.
