history

The Bossard hardware store in 1831

The company was founded in Zug in 1831 by Johann Franz Kaspar Bossard as an iron trade. The earlier silk trading business taken over by his father-in-law Karl Kaspar Kolin was closed. The hardware store retained its local character for around a century before the company expanded into the screw trade in the 1930s and 1940s.

The local specialty store initially developed into a regionally active company and from the 1950s into a nationally active company. From the 1960s onwards, Bossard began to set up and expand an international network of bases. In the course of expansion, the company went public in 1987 .

The recession at the beginning of the 1990s and the associated poorer business performance prompted Bossard to review the entire organization. The company focused on the core area of connection technology and the step-by-step removal of all tool, fittings and craft activities.

Bossard is active in connection technology in Europe, America and Asia. In November 2012, the Bossard Group took over the connection technology division of the KVT Koenig Group.

At the beginning of 2019, the Bossard Group took over BRUMA screw and turning technology GmbH in Velbert. On June 24, 2019, the company also acquired the distribution division of the SACS Boysen Aerospace Group, which continues to operate under the name Boysen.

In early 2020, the Bossard Group also increased its majority stake in Torp Fasteners, based in Oslo, Norway, from 60% to 100%. Bossard has been involved in the company since January 2015, which specializes in high-quality connections.
