The Botanica in Originali by the doctor and botanist Johann Hieronymus Kniphof was first published by Johann Michael Funcke in 1733 and was an important herbarium .

As the first important herbarium of its era, Kniphof used the then relatively new Linnaeus nomenclature. Kniphof also developed the technique of natural self-printing decisively and thus enabled a previously unknown level of detail of the plants shown. The first edition consisted of 200 nature prints. In 1747 the second edition appeared with 1185 plates and finally in 1758 the third edition with 1200 illustrations.

The Botanica in Originali is considered the most modern herbarium of its time and brought together the best illustrations of the plants of the time with their detailed descriptions. This work still plays a role in botany today, for example for research into the development of useful plants.
