history

In 1987 the construction of Botanicactus began. A flat field of alfalfa was chosen as the building site. An artificial lake of 10,000 m² surface and 4 m depth with an island was created. This lake also serves as a reserve water basin. In order to protect the garden from drying out due to the north winds that prevail in this area of the island, the excavated earth was used to build up protective walls. After more than two years, Botanicactus opened on May 20, 1989.

On September 6, 1989, the area was flooded. A marking not far from the entrance area reminds of the event.
