Botball 2011

The Botball Educational Robotics Program is an American educational program under the auspices of NASA and includes a team-oriented robotics competition that is based on the US National Science Education Standards and is announced every year.

One of the main goals of the program is to get students excited about research, technology and the MINT subjects .

By planning, developing, programming and documenting robots, the young people should experience, understand and present scientific research directly. A predefined set of permitted robot parts (motors, sensors, construction parts, controllers, cameras, etc.) is required for this in order to fulfill certain competitive tasks.

The botball season starts in spring with the announcement of the task and subsequent two-day workshops for the participating teams. The teams then have several weeks to develop and build their robots from the specified parts. In regional competitions - in Europe the ECER (European Conference on Educational Robotics) forms the framework - winning teams are then determined in several competitions.

In the summer - after the regional competitions - the GCER (Global Conference on Educational Robotics) will determine the international winners. The GCER takes place in the USA. Eligibility to participate is independent of placement in the regional competitions.

history

Founded in 1997 by the KISS Institute for Practical Robotics (KIPR) in Oklahoma , USA, Botball is aimed at young people between the ages of 10 and 18.

In 2012 the Practical Robotics Institute Austria (PRIA) held the first botball event at the TGM in Vienna and thus in Europe . Participants were teams from the USA and Austria. The event also took place at the TGM in Vienna in the following two years.

In 2015 the HTL Hollabrunn was the venue for the European botball competitions. Teams from Egypt, Iraq, Poland and Austria took part in the competitions.

European Conference on Educational Robotics (ECER)

ECER has been an international scientific conference for schoolchildren that has been taking place since 2012 and is organized by the Practical Robotics Institute Austria (PRIA) in Austria under the motto “Robotics and science is tangible”.

Lectures and demonstrations by internationally recognized robotics form the framework for the annual official European botball championships.

ECER 2012

The “European Conference on Educational Robotics 2012” took place from April 25th to 28th, 2012 in Vienna and thus for the first time in Europe.
