The Bottroper Badminton-Gemeinschaft eV (short: BBG, Bottroper BG) is a German badminton association from Bottrop ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). The BBG was founded on March 8, 1976. The club belongs to the Badminton-Landesverband Nordrhein-Westfalen eV (BLV NRW) (membership number 277).

Game operation

The 1st team of the BBG will play in the Association League North in the 2020/21 season. Two other senior teams are at the start in the district league and the district class. In addition, one youth and two mini-teams (U17 + U15) take part in the game.

Venue

The BBG plays its home games in the sports hall at the vocational school (Gladbecker Straße 81, 46236 Bottrop). There are eight badminton fields available there. The training also takes place there and in the Kirchhellen sports hall (Loewenfeldstrasse 33, 46244 Bottrop).

history

The club played a total of five years in the 1st Badminton Bundesliga , most recently in the 1998/99 season. The best placement was seventh in the 1998/99 season. Until 2008, the BBG played in the 2nd Bundesliga North.

The greatest sporting success of the BBG is winning the German Youth Team Championship in 1981. In 2000, the club was runner-up.

The BBG also became known as the host of national and international badminton tournaments. From 1991 to 2008 the association hosted the German Junior Open, the largest badminton junior tournament in Germany, organized by the German Badminton Association (DBV). In addition, the BBG hosted the West German Championship and the German Senior Championship several times .

In August 2014 the BBG merged with the 1st BC Kirchhellen. The smaller club from Bottrop-Kirchhellen joined the BBG as part of the merger.
