Boule bretonne

Boule bretonne is avery popular ball sportin Brittany (see boule game ). There are regionally different rules.

Boule bretonne is played in lanes with boards that are 16 to 20 m long and usually 3 to 4 m wide.

The balls are made of wood or synthetic, have a diameter between 90 and 120 mm and weigh between 500 g and 1 kg. The target ball ( Cochonnet , the "piggy") is made of wood, synthetic or brass and has a diameter of 30 to 40 mm.

Boule bretonne is played in the formations doublette , triplet and quadrette. The number of spheres per formation varies in the regions.

As with other boule games, the goal is to place more balls near the target ball than the opposing team in the rounds or shots. Each closer placed ball counts one point. It is played to ten or twelve points.
