The Bowai (Bowei) is a stick club from Polynesia.

description

The bowai is made of hardwood. It has roughly the same circumference along its entire length. At the end of the head it becomes slightly thicker. The head end is rounded. The lower end of the club is carved with a three-part zigzag wave pattern for a good grip. The simple appearance of the club is deceptive. It is mathematically designed precisely in terms of balance and impact. The ratio between weight and holding point is ideally suited for impact use. In some historical versions, the teeth of defeated enemies were placed in the head for decoration. The Bowai is used by ethnic groups in Polynesia. Examples are known from Fiji , Tonga and Samoa .
