Boyce is a village and unorganized community in Ellis County , Texas in the United States . Postally Boyce belongs to the city of Waxahachie .

location

Boyce is about ten kilometers east of Waxahachie on Farm-to-Market-Road 879 . Surrounding towns and villages are Palmer in the northeast, Garrett in the east, Reagor Springs in the south, Waxahachie in the west and Ike in the northwest.

history

The Boyce settlement was founded in 1872 and named after its founder, William A. Boyce, who came to the region that year with his family from Alabama via Arkansas and bought land here. In 1878 the Southern Pacific Railroad was built through the town. Shortly afterwards, a train station, a church, a school and a post office were built in Boyce. Deviating from the place name, the station was given the name Jeffries . Three churches sprang up in Boyce over the next fifteen years. In 1892 a bank, an Egrenier machine , a blacksmith's shop and a shop were listed as businesses.

In 1925, Boyce's population peaked at 250, and the town's population has been declining ever since. In the 1930s the post office was closed. In 1945 Boyce still had 150 inhabitants, by 1964 the population continued to decrease to around 80. In the late 1960s, the Boyce school closed. The last time the population of the place was surveyed in 1990, Boyce had 75 inhabitants at that time.
