history

In 1868 Louis Brüggemann founded a factory for fermenting molasses and for distilling alcohol in Holzstrasse in Heilbronn. In 1900 the company moved to a new factory in Salzstrasse, and Walter Brüggemann (1868–1958), the founder's son, took over the post of management . Towards the end of the Second World War, the headquarters was largely destroyed in air raids on Heilbronn in 1944.

After the war, it was quickly rebuilt. In 1950 the factory was enlarged and the product range was expanded to include zinc oxides and carbonates. In 1978, Ludwig Brüggemann moved into the company management in the fourth generation, who until 2017 was also the main owner with (as of 2008) 82% of the shares in L. Brüggemann KG. In 1990 a sales office was opened in the USA , which was followed by another sales office in Hong Kong in 2006 . In 2000, with Royal Nedalco BV , Netherlands, a joint venture in the field of ethanol founded, Brüggemann Alcohol GmbH & Co. KG , which was 50% each owned by L. Brüggemann KG and the Dutch Royal Nedalco BV. In 2009 Brüggemann KG sold its shares in this joint venture to its partner Nedalco. The former joint venture was renamed Nedalco Alcohol GmbH & Co. KG , and Brüggemann founded a new company for its alcohol activities, BrüggemannAlcohol Heilbronn GmbH . In 2012, the Brüggemann Group took over the ethanol production facilities in Lutherstadt Wittenberg from the Federal Monopoly Administration for Spirits and founded BrüggemannAlcohol Wittenberg GmbH . In addition, Brüggemann Services GmbH was founded that year , offering services in the field of environmental, safety and chemical management.

The company has been certified to ISO 9001 since 1994 , Brüggemann Chemical also to ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 . The business development of the Brüggemann Group took off in the 21st century, and in 2007, according to the company, “the best year in the company's history” to date, a turnover of 120 million euros was achieved. A turnover of 120 million euros is again planned for 2013.

In 2017, 78-year-old Ludwig Brüggemann sold his Brüggemann shares to the Ayles family from Frankfurt, who are active in the chemical industry. The Brüggemann Group is to remain a family company with headquarters in Heilbronn, where 196 of the 220 employees work.
