The Brüningbrunnen is in the northeast corner of the Höchst market in Frankfurt-Höchst .

history

The fountain was commissioned by the city of Höchst am Main in memory of Adolf von Brüning , co-founder of Hoechst AG, and his wife Clara and designed in 1904 by the architect Karl Wach . The sculptors Johann Belz and Phillip Hermann Leonhard created the fountain according to his plans . On September 24, 1910 the fountain was unveiled on the Höchst Castle Square . In the summer of 1938, during the National Socialist era, it was moved from Schloßplatz to the northeast corner of the Höchst market. The fountain system was not used for a long time; thanks to a private donation, the fountain was renovated in autumn 2011 and a water pipe was installed.

nature

The fountain is made of light limestone. The water basin is filled with gargoyles in the shape of lions' heads and allegories for trade, chemistry, industry and research can be found on the respective front sides. The inscription on the bronze plaques on the fountain reads:

For the development of the city and the well-being of its residents, Dr. Adolf von Brüning 1837-1894 and his wife Clara geb. Spindler 1846–1909, the friend of the city and its poor, built this fountain as a permanent honorable memory of the grateful citizens of Höchst aM - AD MCMX.
