Wilhelm Harms

Wilhelm Harms (born June 6, 1850 in Schwaan ; † January 21, 1933 in Brüel ; called: "Schausting" Harms ) was a Low German writer .

Wilhelm Harms came from a poor family as the son of a journeyman brick maker. After elementary school he completed an apprenticeship as a shoemaker, which was followed by years of wandering until he settled as a shoemaker in Brüel . In 1908 the Hinstorff Verlag published its first Low German story in the Voss and Haas calendar, and more followed.

Harms was considered the Mecklenburg original, he was called "Schauster" (high German shoemaker ) or "Schausting Harms". He earned the title “Meistersänger” when he appeared in a Wagner performance at the grand ducal court in Schwerin .
