The Brabham BT23 was a formula racing car that Brabham built in the late 1960s.

Development history

The BT23 was designed as a Formula 2 racing car and most vehicles of this type were also used in this racing series. But there was also a Tasman version and some BT23s were converted for Formula 1 by private drivers .

The car had a tubular space frame, which was reinforced in the Tasman version by supporting sheet metal. A 200 hp Cosworth FVA engine was used as the engine. Jochen Rindt dominated the Formula 2 seasons 1967 and 1968 with the BT23 at will. He won nine of 15 laps, but as an A driver could not achieve any points for the European drivers' championship.

Racing history

Top drivers like Derek Bell , Kurt Ahrens , Piers Courage , Peter Gethin and Robin Widdows drove the BT23. In 1969, motorcycle racing driver Bill Ivy began his Formula 2 career in a BT23.
