Career

Bobsleigh

Widdows was one of the best British bobsleigh pilots in the early 1960s . As a member of the British four-man bobsleigh , he took part in the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 (13th place) and in Grenoble in 1968 (8th place).

Motorsport

Widdows celebrated his first successes in motorsport in the mid-1960s. In 1965 he won the British Autosport Class C championship in a Lotus 23 , and the next season he competed in Formula 3 . With financial support from friends, Widdows entered the Formula 2 European Championship in 1967 . The highlight of the year was the victory at the Rhein-Cup at Hockenheim .

In 1968 he made his only appearance in Formula 1 . The team management of the once successful Cooper team provided him with a Cooper T86B - BRM for the British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch . However, after problems with the ignition, Widdows had to give up.

1969 Widdows drove back in Formula 2. For the team of Bob Gerard he won the Lottery Grand Prix and was second in Reims . He also took part in sports car races for Matra . With Nanni Galli he finished seventh at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . After another season in Formula 2, Widdows surprisingly resigned from racing at the end of the 1970 season.
