Brahma is a beer that is made by the Brazilian brewery AmBev . It was first brewed in 1888 by the company Manufatura de Cerveja Brahma Villiger & Companhia of the Swiss immigrant Joseph Villiger. In 1999 this merged with the Companhia Antarctica brewery to form AmBev.

There are different versions of the origin of the name of the beer. In the beer museum of the Brazilian city of Blumenau you can read that the name goes back to the founder of the modern Brahma brewery Georg Maschke. Brahma is then an abbreviation of the word "Brauhaus Maschke".

The beer became known, among other things, for its innovative marketing, which won many awards at advertising film festivals like the one in Cannes .
