Brahms (Mercury Crater)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brahms is an impact crater on the planet Mercury . It has a diameter of 97 km and its age is around 3.5 billion years. It was named after the German composer Johannes Brahms .

The Brahms Crater is in the northwest, north of Caloris Planitia . In the middle of the crater there is a central mountain about 3 km high . After the meteorite hit , the walls of the crater slid inward. The irregularly shaped crater rim , which is surrounded by mounds of rubble, and the concentricity of the terraces go back to this process. These formations are typical of a crater between 10 and 130 km.
