Lower earthworks , remains of Brandon Castle

Brandon Castle is a ruined castle over the River Avon between the two almost adjoining villages of Brandon and Wolston in the English county of Warwickshire . The villages are between the towns of Rugby and Coventry .

The castle was originally a moth with earthworks that Geoffrey de Clinton had built in the 12th century. Around 1226 the De Verdon family had a stone castle with a donjon and a larger outer enclosure built on this site . This castle is said to have been "torn down" by the troops of the Baron von Kenilworth Castle in 1265, because John de Verdon was an active supporter of the king.

Only lower earthworks and some masonry are still visible today.
