Brandy Tjungurrayi

Brandy Tjungurrayi (* after 1930 in Nyilla on the Canning Stock Route in Western Australia ) is an Aboriginal artist who lives and works in Balgo , Western Australia. In addition to his artistic work, he cultivates the traditions of the Aborigines and the Tingari songlines .

Life

As a boy, Brandy lived nomadically in the bush in the south of Purtutjalpu in the Western Desert of Australia . In the 1950s he and his first wife went to Balgo to the local Aboriginal mission station , where they worked with sheep and goats. He is now married for the second time.

painting

In 1985 he began to paint in Balgo , inspired by the art of Papunya Tula . He exhibited for the first time in a solo exhibition in 2000 and was involved in the retrospective of Papunya Tula art in the Art Gallery of New South Wales that same year . His works are dot paintings that are in private and public collections, such as the National Gallery of Australia , Art Gallery of New South Wales and Art Gallery of Western Australia . He took a short break and has been painting again since 2006.
