The brandy soup (also called Brockselsupp in the Nassau dialect) is an old custom from the 19th century in the area of the former Duchy of Nassau (Nassauer Land) with a focus on the Aartal and the adjacent Limburg Basin . Serving the soup was common at infant baptisms and weddings.

In addition to brandy , water and sugar, a special gingerbread is used for the Brockselsupp . The brandy soup is traditionally served cold in a tin bowl, the brandy bowl . The soup is consumed according to a fixed custom. The soup is eaten together from the bowl. A rhythm of three knocking and three spooning should be strictly adhered to by everyone.
