history

The Rengsdorf tourism company was founded in 1978 by Klaus Scheyer and has been offering group and package tours through direct sales ever since. The company has had the Berge & Meer brand name since 1995. An in-house call center was founded in 1997, and online direct sales began in 2000. On November 1, 2001, TUI became a partner in the parent company of Berge & Meer. In 2004 a new company building was inaugurated on Andréestrasse in Rengsdorf. The Berge & Meer travel shop started in June 2005 on the n-tv channel. Since January 2007, Aldi Nord and Süd have been providing accommodation, cruises and package tours under Aldi-Reisen , also with Berge & Meer as tour operators.

In 2008, founder Klaus Scheyer left the company after 30 years with the company. A year later, Ralf Horter succeeded Reiner Meutsch, who left the company after 20 years. Tim Dunker joined the management team in 2011, and Ralf Horter left Berge & Meer in 2012. Today the management consists of CEO Thomas Klein and Tim Dunker.

At a brand relaunch in December 2014, the brand claim “More vacation surprisingly cheap” was replaced by “Travel. For explorers. ”. The brand would like to position itself even more strongly than before in the field of round trips and adventure travel.

At the beginning of August 2019, the TUI Group, the previous owner of the company, announced that it had sold its shares to the Hamburg-based subsidiary GENUI GmbH .
