Brantwoode

Brantwoode is the name of a villa in the Scottish town of Helensburgh . The building is located at 4 Munro Drive West in the north of the city. In 1971 the villa was included in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A.

history

Brantwoode was built by J. Alexander . As an architect, William Leiper , who also designed other villas in Helensburgh, was responsible for the planning. The work was completed in 1895. Changes to the use of space were made in the 1930s. Among other things, new connections between rooms were created and a bedroom was converted into a bathroom. Overall, however, the building that is preserved today largely corresponds to its original condition.

Brantwoode has architectural features of the Arts and Crafts movement , but also traditional elements of English villa architecture. The facades are clad in red sandstone up to storey height . All windows and entrance doors are faced with sandstone . Red tiles and partly half-timbered buildings are installed on the upper floor. The roofs are covered with green shingles.
