Brassière (f .; French bodice ) originally referred to the forerunners of the brassiere that emerged in the 19th century . Since the late 1970s, Brassière has also been the name for a figure-hugging, sleeveless and strapless women's top which, unlike the corsage, achieves the shaping effect not through the cut and seams, but through the elastic forces of the material ( stretch or tricot ). In contrast to the brassiere, the brassière does not consist of two separate bowls. The otherwise similar bustier is more like a corsage in form and function .
