The browcatcher ( Ficedula superciliaris ) is an Asian songbird belonging to the flycatcher family and is also called the white- browed flycatcher .

features

Browcatchers reach a body length of 12 cm. The male is deep blue on the upper side and on the sides of the neck and chest, its underside is white. The female has gray-brown spots on the side of the breast, the red-brown on the rump and on the upper tail-coverts is missing.

The subspecies Ficedula superciliaris superciliaris in the western Himalayas has a white stripe over the eyes and white outer tail feathers, in the subspecies Ficedula superciliaris aestigma in the eastern Himalayas these characteristics are only weak and in the subspecies Ficedula superciliaris cleta in the mountains of South Assam they are not present.

Way of life

The bird breeds at the foot of the Himalayas and winters in southern India . It looks for insects in the thick wood.
