The Braun Photo Technik GmbH , formerly Carl Braun Camera work Nuremberg was a traditional manufacturer of photo and presentation technology, based in Nuremberg and is now a brand of Reflecta GmbH from Eutingen .

history

Karl Braun KG was founded by Karl Braun in 1915, and in 1948 the Carl Braun Camera factory in Nuremberg emerged from it. In the same year, Braun began producing box cameras for roll film, and from 1950 the production of 35mm cameras. The Paxette is the company's best-known 35mm viewfinder camera . Because of its affordable price, it was also known as the “Elementary School Teacher Leica ”. In 1965 the production of cameras was relocated to the Far East.

From 1954 Braun produced slide projectors . The Paximat model was one of the most successful semi-automatic slide projectors on the market and an important pillar of the company for many years. By 1997 more than four million pieces had been sold. In addition, the Episkop - Paxiscope, a projector for non-transparent documents, was a widespread product. The breakthrough in digital photography led to a slump in sales of slide projectors at the end of the 1990s. In 2000 the company had to file for bankruptcy. In 2004, Braun was renamed and has been operating under the name BRAUN PHOTO TECHNIK GmbH since then .

Today binoculars, slide projectors, slide scanners, analog 35mm and single-lens reflex cameras, and digital cameras since 2003, are sold under the Braun brand. In 2016, the company moved from its original headquarters in Nuremberg to Eutingen in Baden-Württemberg, where it moved into a newly constructed administration and production building together with the long-standing brand owner, Reflecta GmbH.

Slide projectors

From 1954 the Carl Braun Camera factory produced slide projectors . These products should not be confused with the slide projectors from Braun GmbH from Kronberg / Taunus.

The projectors were equipped with different projection lenses under the brand name Braun:

  • Super Paxon and Color-Paxon (f / 2.8 / 85 mm);
  • ULTRALIT PL (1: 3.5 / 70-120 mm MC)
  • Braun-Stellar (1: 3.5 / 150 mm)

In some cases, brand lenses from other manufacturers were also used:

Paximat

The Paximat model was one of the most successful semi-automatic slide projectors on the market (e.g. Paximat Super N24 + J ). Later models ( Paximat Multimag 5015 AFC , Paximat International 1950 ) were equipped with autofocus , remote control and some with microprocessor control. By 1997, more than four million Paximat series had been sold.

Novamat

Another series of slide projectors was called “Novamat” (e.g. Novamat 515 AF ; NOVAMAT 515 AF-I Autofocus ). The Novamat 150 FM-M monitor Novamat 515-AF-M also had a monitor for slide viewing .

Episcopes

Braun manufactures a series of episcopes called Paxiscope (e.g. Paxiscope 650 , Paxiscope XL ). The projection lenses usually have the name Braun Super Paxigon ; typical specifications are 1: 2.5 / 200 mm for smaller and 1: 3.5 / 280 mm for larger devices.
