Broadband switching network
A broadband switching network with a tree topology similar to the telephone network is called a broadband switching network . A broadband switching network enables bidirectional communication ( broadband communication ) and is the prerequisite for broadband dialogue systems and interactive television .
Existing broadband switching networks
In the Federal Republic of Germany there are a number of broadband switching networks; some of these networks are public, some are non-public; some examples:
- Broadband science network (B-WiN, ATM-based, discontinued)
- Datex-M (discontinued)
- Deutsche Telekom's ATM pilot network (discontinued)
- High-speed network (HGN) Berlin
- Berlin science network BRAIN
Planned broadband switching networks
The narrowband ISDN switching network should be expanded to become a broadband B-ISDN ( broadband ISDN ); The additional integration of broadband individual communication services such as the videophone was planned . Planning was discontinued in the late 1980s.
In addition, a distinction was made between B-ISDN and the Integrated Broadband Telecommunications Network ( IBFN ), which also integrated the mass media broadband distribution services of television and radio ; the IBFN was also known as the universal network. Planning was discontinued in the 1980s.
