Datex-M

Datex-M was a packet-switched , connectionless and broadcast or multicast- enabled service from Deutsche Telekom for LAN -to-LAN coupling with transmission rates of up to 140 Mbit / s. The M stood for multimedia or multi-megabit ; it was a MAN technology based on a public network using SMDS technology. SMDS stands for switched multimegabit data service .

The acronym stands for Datex Data Exchange ( data exchange ). In addition to Datex-M, Deutsche Telekom also operates Datex-P , Datex-L and Datex-J ; the latter is the former BTX .

Telekom's Datex-M service enabled broadband data transmission with transmission rates from 2 Mbit / s to 140 Mbit / s and optionally synchronous channels according to G.703 with n × 64 kbit / s to 2 Mbit / s. The Datex-M network was a high-speed backbone for the LANs of distributed company locations and was replaced by T- ATM and the Frame Relay and IP networks from Telekom.

Datex-M was available in different versions, including the Datex-M Frame Relay.
