Breitscheid (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lords of Breitscheid were a noble family in the Eifel . Today only the name of the district of Adenau , namely Breidscheid, reminds of them.

history

In what is now Breidscheid, the von Breitscheid gentlemen owned a castle house as early as the 12th century . This noble court was a fiefdom of the Lords of Nürburg and when the county fell to the Archbishopric of Cologne , it became a fiefdom of the Electorate of Cologne.

"Petrus de Breitsceit" is mentioned in the 13th century and "Heinrich von Breitscheid" in the 14th century. "Winrich von Breitscheid" received his castle loan in Nürburg in 1387. 1444 enfeoffed Archbishop Dietrich Konrad von Breitscheid.

The Lords of Breitscheid were nicknamed Schlitz after 1485 . The noble family died out around 1580 with Maximilian Schlitz von Breitscheid in the male line. The daughter Katharina von Breitscheid, married to Christoph von Hausen since 1553, inherited the headquarters. This was sold by the descendants in 1639.
