Bremen load

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bremen load was a measure used to determine the transport capacity of ships. It originated from the early Hanseatic grain measure of load , which originally denoted the amount of grain that a cart pulled by four horses could transport.

The division of the Bremen load was as follows:

1 Bremer load = 4 quarts = 40 Bremer bushels = 160 quarters = 640 lockers

Since a Bremen bushel measured 74.069 liters, a Bremen load corresponded to 2962.76 liters.

A Prussian load , for comparison, contained 56.5 Prussian bushels of 54.9615 liters each and thus corresponded to 3105.325 liters or 1.048119 Bremen loads.
